YAK Car Pic of the Day

Did only the red ones survive? These three Triumphs were spotted around town in the past few months. The Spitfire 4, built from 1962-64, was in a yard in North Tonawanda; Marks III Spitfires were built from 1967-70 — this one sits on Grand Island; and the Mark III GT6 coupe, this one in a Sanborn yard, was built from 1970-73. They all look like a little TLC could bring them back to life.

THAT MKIII GT6 IS A SLICK LOOKIN’ LIL’ DEVIL. SURE COPPOLA. 2 ARTIFICAL HIPS. WIRE & PINS HOLDING YOUR RIGHT ANKLE TOGETHER & DON’T FORGET THE 225 LBS OF PASTA BELLY. RIGHT. I COULD NOT GET INTO THAT BUGGY EVEN IF I WAS GREASED. EEEWWWCHH! WHAT A GASTLY THOUGHT. A CAR FOR A SKINNY PERSON. I GUESS I’LL KEEP DRIVING MY F-150

Amazing that you turned up any of them, Jim. Even under the best of circumstances, it was tough to keep these cars running given their propensity for electrical problems, oil leakage and parts scarcities. A college buddy had 2 Spitfire 3’s – 1 was a parts car.
