YAK Car Pic of the Day

Dad's '49 DeSoto

Although I won’t even try to convince you that I remember it, this is the first car I was ever in — my Dad’s 1949 DeSoto that he and Mom brought me home from Sister’s Hostipal in after I’d graced them with my birth. (And no, I’m not quite that old; the car wasn’t new at that point.) Due to some unfortunate cropping by the photographer, you don’t see much here except for that massive chromed front end. It was though, a two-door Club Coupe; not sure if it was the Custom or the pricier Deluxe. I do know that in another year it would be gone, traded for a new 1953 Chevy Bel Air two-door hardtop. Wish I had that one now.

I remember our first car. 1950 Plymouth Coupe. It was green. The turn indicator was always on the fritz. Mom kept it and sold it to her cousin Madaline, and bought a 1955 Chevey Bel Air Coupe. I wish I had that Bel Air now!
