YAK Car Pic of the Day

'62 Valiant Signet 200, "Mr. Hobbs Takes A Vacation"

A while back we showed you the big ol’ Dodge station wagon that Jimmy Stewart and his family drove to the beach in the 1962 movie Mr. Hobbs Takes A Vacation. Well, like any good suburbanite, Mr. Hobbs had a second car that he used for his daily commute into St. Louis. It was this 1962 Plymouth Valiant Signet 200, from back in the day when manufacturers like really long names for their cars. This one was the top of the line for the compact Valiant, and Plymouth sold over 25,000 of them.

Those Valiants were solid, stalwart machines. My brother had a ’61. Powered by MOPAR’s venerable Slant 6, they were dependable cars which rarely died. I think the only thing that did them in was WNY’s abrasive road salts, which consumed sheet metal like the Cookie Monster attacked an Oreo.

I GUESS MOPAR HAD THE AUTOMOTIVE CONTRACT FOR THE MOVIE.
