'74 Audi Fox brochure art

I almost bought one of these in 1979 when I was living in Florida, as my ’78 VW Scirocco had no a/c (I bought it up here before moving to Jacksonville); then I realized that: a) I’d get murdered on trade-in value for a car without air; and b) I hated living there so much I realized I’d be taking the Scirocco back up north soon anyway. The 1974 Audi Fox was a great little car though (not to be confused with the dreadful VW Fox which I couldn’t even sit in without my head rubbing on the headliner). You can see the brochure page here (unfortunately this site won’t let you link to the entire brochure. You can find it by clicking here; list by “all makes” then navigate to the Audi page, and 1974 Fox).

  • Great car! When I was a kid one of the professors at a nearby college drove one of these. She and her husband bought it in Germany on their honeymoon trip, drove it on their trip, then had it shipped back home. Later, in college, I took courses from this professor and she was probably the best professor I had as an undergrad.

So I associate ownership of this model car with good smarts. Jim, did you say you did or didn’t buy one 😉

Although I loved the Scirocco, there were times I wished I’d bought the Fox (like, every year in the middle of August!).
