YAK Car Pic of the Day

Aunt Bee’s ’55 Ford Sunliner

And you thought Aunt Bee was a Fuddy-Duddy. When she decides it’s time to get a driver’s license and buy a car in episode 22, season six of The Andy Griffith Show, she picks up this nifty 1955 Ford Sunliner (unusual to see one these not painted as a two-tone). Here we see her getting a driving lesson from Goober. Having a driving instructor named Goober just instills confidence, wouldn’t you say? The episode, “Aunt Bee Learns to Drive,” was first broadcast on February 14, 1966.

Great choice, Jim and appreciated your association of the ’55 Ford with the Andy Griffith Show. As you know, the show’s producer’s must have had an agreement with FOMOCO as you never saw any GM or Chrysler sheet metal in any of the show’s Mayberry street scenes and Andy was always patrolling in a current model Fairlane squad car. As for those ’55-’56 Fords, I always thought they were some of the best looking machines that ever rolled off the design boards at Dearborn and reflect the success Ford had with their early T-Birds.
