A few interesting concepts from the on-going Los Angeles Auto Show:
The Jaguar C-X16, which was first revealed at Frankfurt, makes its US debut at L.A., and — surprise — this good-looking two-seat Jag is a hybrid! It has an electric motor as well as a supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 which puts out 375 hp. Or more — with its “push-to-pass” feature (I believe we used to call it “flooring it”) the hp increases to 469.
The BMW group brought its i-series concepts to the west coast, including the “interesting-looking” BMW i3, touted as the first purely electrically-powered production car within the BMW group. Designed for urban use, the i3 has its electric motor over the rear axle.
Meanwhile, Korean manufacturer Kia continues to impress with its styling designs. The Kia GT is a four-door coupe-like design with rear-hinged rear doors that open slightly upward for easier entry to the back seating area. And it’s rear-wheel drive, a first for a Kia concept.
On a related note, the rights to the name for Kia’s media website for automotive writers unbelievably expired on Friday, so Kia has no official presence on the web for press releases and photos at this time. What were they thinking?
Chrysler’s big news of the week? A new Fiat commercial featuring Jennifer Lopez. Stop the presses!!
