YAK Car Pic(s) of the Day

From the Los Angeles Auto Show, going on now:

Ford unveiled its new Escape, which will be available next year as a 2013 model. It will also be available in Europe and China as the new, updated Kuga.

Cadillac is finally replacing the aging DTS and STS sedans with a single new model, the XTS, which will be available next spring. If I had to categorize its looks, I’d say it resembles a larger CTS, which isn’t a bad thing. I’m not crazy about the name however. All those letter combinations are too confusing. Give it a real name already.

Volkswagen’s new Passat has been named Motor Trend Magazine’s 2012 Car of the Year. I’m not sure how much pull the magazine still has these days, but winning their COTY award has been a bragging point for the auto companies since the first one was given to the 1949 Cadillac (although some, like the 1971 Chevy Vega and the 1983 AMC/Renault Alliance, didn’t quite pan out as award-winning cars over the course of their lifetimes).

And just as Chevrolet’s new Sonic compact is hitting showrooms, their new, even smaller Spark is being shown in L.A. at the show. It’s already on sale in Europe, Asia, Australia, Mexico, and South America. We’ll see it next spring.

Tomorrow we’ll look at some of the concepts.
