Wheels in the Grass

How ’bout this 1979 Chevy Camaro Sport Coupe in Medium Green Metallic? It even has the optional white sidewall tires and Rally wheels. Chevy sold over 111,000 of this base model Camaro for 1979, which may sound like a lot until you realize that number was more than 23,000 fewer than the year before. And it would only get worse until Chevy finally pulled the plug on its pony car (temporarily, as it turned out) after the 2002 model year. All ’79 Camaros (except the Z28) came standard with the 250-cu. in. six engine; optional were a 305- or 350-cu. in. V-8. Besides the bottom-of-the-line Sport Coupe and top-of-the-line Z28 were the Rally Sport and the more luxurious Berlinetta. Base Sport Coupes like our green example started at $5,163. You might still see this one sitting outside a Niagara Falls repair shop, where it’s been for a while now.
