YAK Car Pic of the Day

’54 Chevy pickup, Niagara Falls USA

Some days the Car Pic is a Truck Pic — like today’s 1954 Chevy pickup. It’s from back in the day when pickups were driven mostly by farmers or tradesmen; you didn’t see too many in the parking lot of Salvatore’s! This one’s been sitting in a lot in Niagara Falls for a while now, and looks restoreable. You can view the extensive brochure here.

I’VE GOT A 2010 FORD F-15O XLT WHICH IS A VERY COMFORTABLE & EASY TO DRIVE TRUCK.(IT EVEN HAS A BACK UP TV CAMERA.)HOWEVER THE TRUCK I LEARNED TO DRIVE A PICK UP IN WAS A ’46 DODGE POWER WAGON THAT MY OLD MENTOR, BOB “DOC” VOLGENAU HAD ON HIS TREE FARM OUT IN LEON. (CAT. COUNTY). WHEN YOU DROVE THOSE OLD TRUCKS LIKE THE ’54 CHEVY, YOU NEEDED BOTH HANDS & FEET AND IT WAS POWER STEERING BY “ARMSTRONG” PRETTY COOL WHEN YOUR 16, BUT IT WOULD KILL ME NOW @ 61.

    Another great find, Jim

I’d drive that ’54 as-is, dents and rust and all – that’s all “badge of honor” stuff. Of course, I’d be sure the “Blue Flame 6” was running smooth and the tires, brakes, clutch, etc. were roadworthy.

I admire machines of that vintage; like fine wine, they age well.
