Two Buffalo not- for- profit organizations have recently received generous grants from two prominent foundations. First, the John R. Oishei foundation has donated a $200,000 grant to the Erie County Botanical Gardens Society, Inc. The organization aims to advance appreciation for and knowledge of plant life and its connection to people and culture. It does this through living plant collections, a historic conservatory, education, research and exhibits. The donated funds will be used to update the Garden’s Strategic Plan and support the growth of educational programs, and horticultural exhibits. The grant will also help to sustain the tremendous growth the Botanical Gardens has seen in admission, membership, shows and events.
The second notable grant was awarded to the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra from the Baird Foundation. The Grammy award winning BPO presents more than 120 Classics, Pops and Youth Concerts each year, and has a permanent home in Kleinhans Music Hall. The dollar for dollar challenge grant from the Baird Foundation up to $100,000 is based upon all new and increased gifts to the 2011-2012 annual fund campaign. All pledges must be paid by the end of the Orchestra’s fiscal year on August 31, 2012 to qualify.
