Wheels in the Grass

’59 Chrysler New Yorker, Sanborn, N.Y.

I almost missed seeing this 1959 Chrysler New Yorker two-door hardtop, sitting w-a-y back off the road in a Sanborn yard. It’s one of only 2,434 produced that year, with a starting sticker price of $4,476.

New Yorker line, from the brochure

All New Yorkers were powered by Chrysler’s 413 cu. in. V-8, while lesser Windsors and the Saratoga wagons got by with the 383. Fins were obviously still “in” in 1959 (as they would be for two more model years); and from looking at these things one might think there was a fire sale on chrome that year (imagine that front end in your rearview mirror on an early sunny day!). This same yard also yielded a 1962 Imperial which we’ll feature next week.

That’s an amazing find, Jim. I’d thought all of that expansive MOPAR sheet metal would have been consumed by WNY’s rod salts decades ago….
