Interested in exercising for a good cause? Well you’re in luck because the third annual Tour De Farm Benefit bicycle ride presented by the Massachusetts Avenue Project and Independent Health will take place this Saturday (September 17) at 9am. The 30-mile ride to benefit local organizations MAP and Green Options Buffalo will begin at Grant and Letchworth on Buffalo’s West Side and end at Oles Farm in Alden. Riders will stop at the Clinton Bailey Market, Bippert’s Farm, Miller Farm, Berner Farm, and finish at Oles Farm. For riders who aren’t in as good of shape as they used to be, there is a half ride starting at Bippert’s Farm (about 16 miles long) located at 5240 Clinton Street in Elma.
Following the ride at Oles Farm will be MAP’s Tour De Farms Harvest celebration, including a BBQ, Flying Bison Beer, youth activities and music by the Outer Circle Orchestra. Even if you don’t come for the ride, come for the food and beverages at 2pm.
If a bike tune-up is in order, show up to Green Options Buffalo’s Community Bicycle workshop (98 Colvin Ave) from 7 to 9pm Friday Sept 16. Tour De Farm riders are welcome to have their bikes tuned up by mechanics and trained volunteers. This session which gives riders a chance to register, check in early, and become acquainted with other riders has become as much of a tradition as the ride itself.
