Niagara Falls Blues Festival Next Weekend / Dan Aykroyd Tomorrow

End of summer giving you the blues? Cheer up! Next weekend (September 9, 10 & 11), you can catch a slew of hot blues acts in the honeymoon capital of the world, Niagara Falls. The show is free, taking place on an outdoor stage on Old Falls Street.

From the press release: Festival founder, organizer and president Toby Rotella said; “This festval  has become one of the premier music events in the area. We are one of a hand full of cities in the United States that hosts a three day blues festival. This is our fourth year presenting the best in the blues here in Niagara Falls. The festival has taken on a life of it’s own and has become a destination spot for music lovers and international travelers looking to combine the powerful experience of Niagara Falls with the sweet sounds of a truly American art form. THE BLUES. Join the two and you get “Blues on the Brink.”  What can I say, it’s great music, for free,  in a great space, on Old Falls Street, with great food, drink and people, all framed by the mighty Niagara.”

Rotella has been promoting great blues acts in Niagara Falls since the days when he owned the legendary Imperial Garage, over 30 years ago. Here’s a story I wrote 10 years ago, about that place.

On a related note, Elwood Blues himself—Dan Aykroyd—will be in the Falls tomorrow (9/3), from 11am-2pm, at Supermarket Liquors, promoting Crystal Head Vodka—his own brand. At the event, Niagara Falls mayor Paul Dyster and organizers of the festival will present the Blues Brother with a key to the city.
