Lenihan’s Long Goodbye

Wednesday, Artvoice received a fax inviting us to Pettibone’s Tursday evening, where Erie County Democratic Chairman Len Lenihan would be celebrated for all his hard work, etc. The fax said he would be stepping down today. Click here to read the fax.

Today, at 4:23pm, we received a fax saying he would not be stepping down.

“At the request of numerous Town and Zone Leaders, I am going to remain as Erie County Chairman to help our candidates in their important races this year. A Chairmanship transition during an election year for County Executive would be a huge distraction. Therefore I have decided that this decision should be put off until some time after the November election.”

Click here to read that fax.

  • Peter A Reese

Please be advised that I am not one of the Buffalo zone chairmen who asked Lenihan to stay.

  • William Jefferson Clinton

Come on, with the Dem Party and this chairmanship drama, the fax today had to come in at 4:20 ????

  • Jonathan Wellinto-Fidrych III

Bully for Leonard! No reason to allow an insignificant immigrant governor to push you around. What a distraction to resign. This will surely put Mr. Lenihan in the running for Republican of the Year!

  • Randell Graves

Mr Reese is wrong on this issue. Jonathan Wellington-Fidrych is correct. Bully for Leonard! Bully for William B. Notice that both of them, Leonard and William B (known to the common folk as Sam Hoyt…William B is his Buffalo Club given name.) had fundraisers in their name that skewed their purpose. In Leonard’s name, it was a goodbye party…honoring him for leaving. Yet, he slyly put his foot in each attendees behind when they left, knowing that he was NEVER leaving. This man is SOOOOO good, he got William Jefferson Clinton (love your above post dude), to honor him as well. Only in Erie County can we fool not only the citizens, but a former resident as well!!!!!! And where did Leonard learn this??? From the Grand Master, William B. “Sam” Hoyt! This guy holds his annual clambake fundraiser, to raise funds for a re-election bid, only to quit a less than a week later to take a job with Mario Jr. These gentleman have earned their keep. i think we ought to appoint them as the governor’s advisors on hydrofracking!

  • Randell Graves

When the word resident appears..I meant president!!!!

  • Jim Ostrowski

It’s fun to watch the Dems–in a region in the midst of continual decline–fight, not about policy or philosophy or issues, but about ego, power, pelf, and turf. Good show! This is how liberalism ends.

  • I’ll be honored to call Len “Chairman” for another couple of months — and perhaps longer.

  • rastamick

People actually attacked the new Buffalo Schools Superintendent for her less than Jolie-like appearance. Has anyone seen Len Lenihan’s completely fucking deranged grill lately ? Oh yeah JO the dems have a cornered market on power and ego and turf. While the knob teabaggers in DC tried to default the country so Grover Norquist wouldn’t run a primary against them if they disobeyed, no power perversion or ego involved there. You could hear the end of liberalism in a Mr. Softee truck’s jingle. Keep dreaming.

  • Jim Ostrowski

I never said the GOP wasn’t dominated by the same motives. That shows how ignorant you are. I can’t stand either party’s machine. This is well known. You need to escape from the two-cell ideological prison of American politics. Stop using the evil Republicans to justify the evil Democrats. If you call the recent bill raising the debt limit a tea party act, again, you display your ignorance. That’s why I have to lecture you guys like we used to get yelled at at football practice. WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Helmet slap.)

  • Whew

Thank God no one is confused that Peter Reese is a Zone Chair or that anyone cares what he thinks.

  • Whew

“fight, not about policy or philosophy or issues, but about ego, power, pelf, and turf.”

Hilarious. The leader of a second irrelevant tea party group makes these charges, well I guess being drunk on your own ego is being better than being a drunk driver.

  • Jim Ostrowski

Last comment makes no sense. The WNY tax revolt was focused on policy from the beginning and still is. It started out as a protest against corporate welfare that war is still ongoing in the Court of Appeals on Oct. 12th. It was never about getting me elected to a public or party office. I love how no one has contradicted my assertion though. Guilty plea accepted.

  • Jonathan Wellinton-Fidrych III

Dear Whew: I see that Mr. Ostrowski has given you a good comeuppance. To be told that you make no sense by a person who seldom makes any sense is indeed telling. Perhaps this will cure you of your anonymous blogging.

  • Jim Ostrowski

I thought Whew was her real name.

  • rastamick

Ok for starters JO I am going by your smug assault on Dems and contrary to your own belief your views are not widely known by people like me who see your name and pretty much know you’ll be bitching about democrats and liberals while not revealing much of what you do stand for. Like a lot of the overfed koi in the buffalo pond you have some odd sense of importance coupled by a self assumed pseudo celebrity status. Nice passive aggressive attempt at suggesting you are in a position to slap anyone. My kids’ football coaches don’t slap them in the head any more than you would slap me in the head literally or figuratively, the presumption of that remark borders on delusional. I called your teaknobs out for trying to force the default not raising the d.c. limit. Who’s ignorant ? On second thought it serves me right for attempting to engage a scripted idealogue who thinks everyone in B-Lo knows or cares about his political bent. Get over your self dude, at least you did use the word “lecture” which is correct especially in all of its pejorative pedantic connotations. Drink your tea and blow your horn I am sure someone knows who you are. And probably there’s another who even cares. Convince all your dopey ass “don’t tread on me” banner waving proles to run out and vote for their own outsourcing and a lower standard of living then call it a victory.

  • whew2

Sounds like Peter Reese and Jim Ostrowski need to get a room. Its legal now thanks to our insignificant immigrant gov. Jonathan the 3rd can tag along and watch. It will be the most useful thing he has accomplished in years.

  • Jim Ostrowski

I think what we can take away from all this is not the somersaults of Rast. to cover “his” ignorance about the tea party movement and to immunize himself against my response to his attacks on me by saying he knows nothing about me (then don’t attack me), but the simple fact that no one has even attempted to rebut my assertion that the current fight is all about ego, power, and turf and that makes it pathetic and sad. As I explained in Political Class Dismissed, liberalism tends to degenerate into patronage politics.

It’s not about me. Don’t change the subject. Don’t shoot the messenger.

  • rastamick

But you make it about you with your hilarious pontifications. The teabag movement has more splinters than Hammas and the old IRA combined. Part of your problem is your movement has so many mullahs in tri cornered hats declaring themselves to be THE teaparty that eventually people lose interest and go back to that 8 letter river in Germany that will complete their crossword. Speaking of which I think ewer is another word for a vessel. Got it.

  • Jim Ostrowski

My problem? We just had our most successful event in seven years when Ron Paul came to town. I hope we continue to have such problems.

  • cork it

Dear Artvoice – I hope you will take a cue from WNYMedia and block ostrowski. His obnoxious comments and endless bloviation about his extremely useless website are guaranteed to loose you readers.

  • Jim Ostrowski

I’m not blocked from WNYM. In fact, they once sponsored by radio show. No mention of my website, whatever that means since I have several, in my comments above.

I guess I hit a raw nerve here with my so far unrebutted observation about the Dem split.

  • rastamick

Hmmm, yes, several websites and Ron Paul too, is an epee a fencing instrument ?

  • Jim Ostrowski

A mind is a terrible thing to waste.

  • Jonathan Wellinton-Fidrych III

It is terrible to see people attacking a fine talent like Mr. Ostrowski. I am going to make him the same standing offer I have to Jeremy Toth: They both can work for me at any time. I have prime mobile hotdog stand locations throughout the City.

  • RaChaCha

JWF III — Will you start serving white hots–? My Rochester-raised digestive system having trouble with these red things. Thx.
