Tension is high this morning among WBFO staffers in anticipation of today’s 2pm staff meeting. University at Buffalo/WBFO spokesperson Joe Brennan tells the staff he’s not at liberty to discuss further.
The rumor mill has been in high gear for a year now, concerning the proposed takeover of the UB-run radio station by WNED—the public broadcaster serving western New York and Ontario. We wrote about a proposed takeover last November. Click here to read.
Today at noon, the WNED Board of Directors will hold an open meeting at their downtown studios. The WBFO staff meeting is scheduled two hours later.
I just got off the phone with UB spokesperson Joe Brennan. I asked him if there would be an announcement today regarding WBFO. He said I should look for a press release at 2:30pm. I asked him if there was a WNED Board meeting scheduled for noon. He said he thought there was a meeting scheduled for sometime today. I asked him if a meeting was called for WBFO staff at 2pm today. He told me that was an internal matter.
I asked him if he could provide a sneak preview of the takeover details. He told me he’d already given me a “heads-up” by telling me to look for a press release at 2:30pm. I told him he didn’t give me a “heads-up,” because I was the one who called him to ask about it.
Again, the WNED Board meeting starts at noon at the WNED studios.
Stay tuned for details…
