Fracking Up Our Roads

In an item in this week’s 7 Days column, I refer to a leaked draft report by the New York State Department of Transportation estimating the costs associated with permitting hydrofracking as a result of increased heavy truck traffic.

Here’s a copy of that report, courtesy of the Ithaca Journal.

More corporate entitlements paid for by taxpayers. Corporations like socialism. If the public costs associated with fracking are day-lighted, the accountability allows citizens opportunity to make informed choices. If the costs are hidden behind closed doors and secret documents, even draft documents, the public is mislead. Whats new? Where is the study that talks about how much poisoned wells, aquifers, and watersheds will cost taxpayers? (Beyond NYC/Adirondack Watershed) Thanks to Artvoice and the Ithaca Journal for leaking this document.
