Emerald Ash Borer in Buffalo

Click here to read the news from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. The invasive Emerald Ash Borer is infesting trees in Frederick Law Olmsted’s South Park. The diminutive bug’s larvae kill ash trees by eating tunnels just below the bark, disrupting the transport of water upward to the top of the tree.
Discovered just nine years ago in Michigan, the ash borer has already killed tens of millions of trees in the US, largely due to the transport of firewood.
