light/weight: Dance Performance at Big Orbit to Benefit PUSH Buffalo

Filed under: Art, Events, Good Ideas

In February 2010, dancers Nancy Hughes and Sophia Roberts started the Buffalo Contact Improvisation Jam, a twice monthly gathering of dancers at Wasteland Studios (700 Main Street) to practice what they call the “artsport” of using bodies as moving fulcrums and forms to create spontaneous dance compositions.

Out of these sessions has sprung light/weight, a performance tonight (June 10) and tomorrow (June 11) at Big Orbit Gallery (30d Essex Street), featuring dancers Nancy Hughes, Aaron Water, Henry James, Sophia Roberts, Scott Slocum, Phil Wackerfuss, and Bonnie Jean Taylor, who will spin, lift, flow, and roll off one another to the guitar improvisations of T. Andrew Trump (what Trump calls “comfort music for the modern weirdo”).

The performance is presented by Alt Theatre, and part of the proceeds will benefit PUSH Buffalo. Tickets are $10 in advance  (868-6847) or $15 at the door.
