Don’t let the bitter cold and biting wind fool you. Opening Day at Coca Cola Field is just over a week away, and today the Buffalo Bisons invited the media into the ballpark to check out the new things happening at the ballpark to enhance the fan experience this season.
What stole the show was the new Bisons scoreboard. This high definition monstrosity is amazing. It is huge yet doesn’t overwhelm the seating bowl. The crystal clarity of the video blows away anything this else this venue has ever seen, including the much heralded Big Board which made its debut in 1999.
Bisons General Manager Mike Buczkowski reported that the team is still doing testing on the scoreboard, and will be doing its first night testing tonight after darkness falls to see how the brightness affects the field of play and other factors including light readings. “Now having the largest board shows the Rich family’s commitment to the Bisons, it’s been tremendous all these years. It keeps our ballpark state of the art. We have one of the oldest ballparks in the International League so we need to be able to do these things to keep this a nice plans for our fans to come to.” The Bisons have privately financed the new board and other ballpark enhancements made over the winter.
Buffalo will be hosting the AAA All Star Game and extravaganza in July of 2012, and Buczkowski wants the stadium to be ready for the nation to see. “We want to have things in place and be ready for the All Star Game next year as well.” Buczkowski also admitted that the teams in the league push each other and generate ideas to make all the stadiums better. “I guess we want everyone in our league to have good ballparks. The better the ballparks the better our league does as a whole. There are a couple of parks that are older and they have plans to upgrade their parks. We just want to continue to be proud of this ballpark.”
Opening Day is next Thursday, April 7 at 3:05PM. Be there!
