New Ideas for a New Tomorrow

Here’s a vision for the waterfront I bet you haven’t seen yet. It’s a giant colossus of the Greek Titan, Atlas, towering above the HSBC building. The globe is illuminated at night, and spins, slowly, in synch with the earth’s rotation. According to designers, this will enable any Buffalonian to look toward the waterfront and instantly know what time of day it is.
It may seem far-fetched, but maybe there’s room for some middle ground where creative ideas and box-store mentality can meet. Looks to me that giant pedestal supporting Atlas could house anything from a green-built interactive Erie canal visitor’s center to a, I don’t know, let’s say a fishing store just because my mind’s a blank at the moment.
Don’t forget tomorrow’s forum, “Aspirations and Inspirations: Imagining the Buffalo Waterfront.” Saturday, November 6, at 2pm, at City Honors School (186 East North Street).
