Caustic Sets

Julie Byrne

The concept of Caustic Sets is pretty simple: To host a showcase of local acoustic talent minus the tired “open-mic/coffee shop” stigma and to provide a level playing field where the artists are the focus of the evening without the trappings of becoming just background music. A great idea in an unlikely place, Elmwood Lounge, a place most lovingly associated with Lance Diamond and various cover bands, rather than folk music. A brave experiment indeed, luckily the night has done so well that it will become a bi-weekly occurrence starting with November 4th’s rather explosive line-up of Buffalo’s finest folks with acoustic guitars. Among them areMock Syringa (aka: Julie Byrne) who’s style is reminiscent of the 70’s tinged folk of Vashti Bunyanand Sibylle Baier, haunting and heart-stopping in every way. Vox Humana is the always-captivating stripped down folk-rock outlet for local indie rock stalwart, Vic Lazar. Cassi Meyerhoffer & the Finger Suckin’ Bitches will liven things up with a full band country-rock experience. The dark and Dylan-esque newcomer, Johnny Regret, Sean Kader of Mother Red fame and Catherine Glasgow round out the bill. The show starts at 10:30 sharp and will only set you back $3, so come out and see some of the best songwriting our city has to offer.
