Wheels in the Grass

If you’re of a certain age, this truck was something you probably saw daily in your neighborhood. Well, maybe not this one, but one like it. The Divco milk truck was used by many — if not most — local dairies for home delivery starting from when it went into production in 1939, right up to the last 1967 model. What was unique to the Divco, was that many of them were available as stand-up drivers with hand controls, which made it easier for the delivery person to get in and out in a hurry. Divco also produced other types of delivery trucks, but you’d be hard-pressed to find anyone today who remembers them. This beauty is parked outside Hoover’s Dairy on Ward Road in Sanborn, N.Y., where it looks like it’s ready to go out on its daily run!
Read a short history of Divco here. And I highly recommend the book.
