Wheels in the Grass

When the 1963 Chryslers were introduced, they all, for the first time in years, were generally the same size. Prior to ’63, the pricier New Yorkers rode on a four-inch longer wheelbase. This week’s car in the grass is a 1963 Chrysler Newport four-door sedan, which I spotted last fall in Brant, New York. I figured I should point out the timeline, as you can plainly see in the photo that the leaves are changing. But, I drove by there just last week and it’s still there. This was the lowest-priced Chrysler for 1963, at $2,964. The most expensive was the limited edition, option-packed New Yorker Salon four-door hardtop, at $5,860. No wonder only 593 were built; for that money you
could have had an Imperial!
