Still On the Road Dept.

I think I can assume this 1981 (or ’82 or ’83) DeLorean DMC12 is still on the road — when I found it sitting outside the fence of the Grand Prix Garage in Kenmore it had a dealer plate on the back. I know one doesn’t usually see too many DeLoreans in the course of a day, but when I snapped this photo there was another one inside the fence. And no, I didn’t see either Michael J. Fox or Christopher Lloyd anywhere nearby.
DeLoreans were produced for the 1981-83 model years at a plant in Northern Ireland, by a company founded by former General Motors executive John Z. DeLorean. The company’s assets (which ended up in Columbus, Ohio) were purchased in 1997 by the DeLorean Motor Company, located in Humble, Texas. You can still order a new DeLorean, custom built just for you, from them. They also do restorations and repairs, and sell parts via mail order. In 1981 you could buy a DMC12 for around $27,500; a new one now starts at $57,500. More information on new DeLoreans is available at delorean.com.
