Simon Griffis Has Died

Western New York’s artists and educators have lost a dynamic force and a dear friend. Simon Griffis, executive director of Griffis Sculpture Park, fell while hiking the Deer Lick trail in Zoar Valley on Monday. He was just 48.

Simon was the son of sculptor Larry Griffis, Jr., who founded Griffis Sculpture Park in 1966, as well as the Ashford Hollow Foundation for the Visual and Performing Arts. Through that foundation Simon and his siblings and their associates provided arts education for thousands of kids across the region.

Our thoughts are with his family.

I can’t believe it! I met him before. He came to our school and just recently my friend told me that he had passed.
