The Old Car Dealer Dept.

June 1, 1972 Buffalo Evening News ad

For years, 2677 Delaware Ave. in Buffalo was home to Tunmore Oldsmobile. In 2004, when General Motors discontinued the Olds brand, Tunmore remained in business as a used car dealer. The bottom photo was taken a couple of days before the final Tunmore signs came off the building this past April, when the property was purchased by the Basil group and turned into another Basil Resale Center.

When this Buffalo Evening News ad ran on June 1, 1972, Tunmore was pushing a luxurious Olds 98 Holiday Coupe — loaded — for $4,997. List price for the advertised car was $6,115 — but 98 Holiday Coupe prices started at $4,748.

If you weren’t inclined to spend that much on a new Olds, the lowest-price F-85 four-door sedan (the only F-85 left in the lineup, as all other mid-sized Oldses were now Cutlasses) could have been yours for only $2,958
