Wheels in the Grass

Seeing that Mercury’s been in the news quite a bit these past few days I thought I’d stick with it. This 1960 Mercury Monterey two-door sedan has been parked in a Tonawanda driveway for some time now. It was the lowest priced of the full-sized Mercs for 1960, listing at $2,631. A total of 21,557 of them were produced for the model year, less than half as many as the leading Monterey four-door which was Mercury’s biggest seller for the year — but not by much, as the new-for-1960 compact Comet four-door was just a couple of thousand behind. This blue Monterey looks to be in pretty good shape and is still wearing the old yellow-on-black license plates of the era.
