Wheels in the Grass

There’s a 1953 Kaiser Deluxe four-door sedan sitting behind the detritus in this Town of Java, N.Y. yard. It took a while to determine the model looking at the photo, because some of the obvious clues are hidden… like the nameplate! But, from the front bumper, and its lack of round bumper guards on either side of the override bar I’d guess Deluxe. There’s a hint of chrome trim visible behind the rear wheel; if it’s thin, it’s a Deluxe, while wider trim would make it a Manhattan. But I’m sticking with my first impulse. Around 3,200 of the Deluxe four-doors were made for 1953, and they listed for $2,513.
The Traveller utility sedan went for $2,755 while at the other end of the price scale sat the Carolina two-door sedan, at $2,323 (of which only about 400 were produced).
