2010 Car of the Year awards

The 2010 Car of the Year awards continue to be announced, and nobody seems to agree which car should win. Motor Trend has just named the Ford Fusion as its COTY. Automobile magazine just picked the Volkswagen GTI as its COTY (actually as its Automobile OTY). The North American Car of the Year Award candidates’ short list contains the Fusion, but not the GTI (although it does list the VW Golf, from which the GTI is derived) — the winner of that award will be announced at the North American International Auto Show next January in Detroit. Esquire magazine liked the new Ford Taurus SHO enough to bestow its own first-ever COTY award on it.
I’ve decided to give my own COTY award to the new Kia Soul, for no other reason than I’d like to have one, and if I can honestly tell my wife it was just named Car of the Year, it may increase my chances of getting one.
Look for more (legitimate) COTY awards in the upcoming weeks.
