Old car dealer dept.

This week we’ll take a look at Checkpoint Saab. The dealership, presently located at 487 Kenmore Ave, is in Kenmore, but, as they mention on their web page, walk across the street and you’re in Buffalo. Some years ago, Checkpoint actually was in Buffalo, at 72 Skillen St., as you can see in the old ad. Driving over there today I discovered it’s now the home of D&M Collision, and Cash Tires.
It’s difficult to say what Saab’s ad copywriters were on when they described the 1965 Saab as longer and lovelier. Yes, it has a certain charm, but lovely hardly sums it up. And longer? Longer than what — not most other cars for sale in 1965, that’s for sure. But you’ve gotta like the price: $1,985 P.O.E. as they used to say back then. That’s port of entry, which means you still needed to tack on the delivery charge from wherever they unloaded your Saab off the boat.
Checkpoint also was a BMW dealer for a number of years, but that portion of the business was purchased by Towne Automotive Group in 2002
