They’re Dropping Like Flies

So, two resignations today.

Jennifer Parker leaves as chair of Buffalo Niagara Convention and Visitors Bureau, citing Erie County Executive Chris Collins’s heavy hand (a quality Matt Spina addresses in a front-page article in the News today, as luck would have it):

“I am saddened that conditions have been created that prohibit me from performing my duties as the elected chairperson.  The overreaching Erie County political involvement has caused great distress and created a competing leadership structure that robbed me of the opportunity to effectively lead and serve, “advised Jennifer Parker.

M&T Bank Vice President Keith Belanger, CVB’s immediate past chairman, resigned last week, for the exact same reasons. Collins forced CVB president and CEO Richard Geiger to resign earlier this year.

Meanwhile, over at Buffalo Public Schools, CFO and COO Gary Crosby has resigned his position. In Peter Simon’s article, Crosby say he stayed longer than he expected in order to abet the mission of Superintendent James Williams, but the scuttlebut is that the two have not been seeing eye to eye.

  • Mr. Kelly: your “scuttlebut” is pure fiction.

Good for you, Stefan. We have enough problems to solve without irresponsible journalism stirring the pot. In the past few years, good and honest journalists have been part of the solution by holding our elected officials and other community leaders accountable. Let’s keep the focus on resolving problems, not creating more.
