He then made a deal with Giambra and got hired by ECMC and later Giambra in the County in 2000. Pfaff got laid off in the Marcgh 2005 county red/green budget. Pfaff got nailed in Comptroller Mark Poloncarz's 2006 cell phone audit as one of two Giambra political operatives who still possessed and used county cell phones at taxpayer expense for more than one year after involuntarily leaving the county. Incredibly, Giambra then re-hired Pfaff in late 2006 and put him on the county payroll in the Department of Senior Services without Pfaff ever taking a civil service exam. Pfaff just resigned in August from the County to take a job with Byron Brown friend and State Senate Minority Leader Malcolm Smith on the State Senate payroll. Citzens for Fiscal Integrity, you may recall, received a lot of money from Joel Giambra over the past 2 years. They then shunted a lot of that to Paul Clark's campaign for county executive in 2007 - a campaign Pfaff worked on, as did Cheektowaga Town Democratic Chairman Frank Max who is now running against Erie County Democratic Chairman Len Lenihan to become county chair. What does this all portend - Pfaff, Schmid, O'Donnell, Max, et al? A strategy by Pigeon operating in concert with Golisano and Byron Brown to try and unseat Erie County Democratic Chairman Len Lenihan and his supporters across the party. That would return this community to the vitriolic, anti-community, self-aggrandizement ways of the past of Steve Pigeon.
