Carl Paladino: Let’s Change State Constitution

A couple weeks back, we posted Carl Paladino’s radio commercial condemning Buffalo Public Schools Superintendent James Williams and calling for his resignation.

Now Paladino is pushing a bigger agenda: a state constitutional convention to reconsider the way state government does business. Here’s his challenge, coming to your radio soon:

(UPDATE: Here’s the audio of Paladino’s latest radio ad, and the transcript is below.)

CONSITUTIONAL CONVENTION
AUGUST 20, 2008

HEY UPSTATE NEW YORKERS. / IT’S ME AGAIN,/ CARL PALADINO. AREN’T YOU JUST PEACHY ABOUT OUR STATE LEGISLATIVE DELEGATION? / WITH GREAT RHETORIC, ANTICIPATION AND FANFARE, THEY DRESSED UP FOR THE $6 BILLION DOLLAR BUDGET DEFICIT DANCE AND THEN DID THE ALBANY TWO-STEP WITH THE SHREW SHELLY SILVER CUTTING ONLY $400M. / ALBANY IS NOT ABOUT YOU./ IT’S ABOUT A GLUTTONOUS GOVERNMENT PARALZYED IN THE THREE-MEN-IN-A ROOM BOX INCAPABLE OF CHECKING OUR FALL INTO THE ABYSS, / ARROGANT, PREDATORY UNIONS / AND LEADERS ENDOWED WITH UNSHACKLED POWER AS A RESULT OF OUR IRRATIONAL HISTORY OF ELECTING THE IMPOTENT AND MINDLESS TO COMMAND OUR LIVES. /

THEY FAVOR UNIONS AND RAPE THE TAXPAYER MAKING THE FEEBLE EXCUSE THAT THEY DIDN’T READ THE BILL./

HELLO!

WICKS LAW, TAYLOR LAW, REDISTRICTING, TERM LIMITS, RESIDENCY,/ DEBILITATING, OVERREACHING REGULATION./ THE HIGHEST TAXES IN AMERICA, DYSFUNCTIONAL SCHOOL SYSTEMS, REDUNDANT WASTEFUL GOVERNMENTS, INSOLENT PUBLIC AUTHORITIES,/ IT GOES ON AND ON. SO MANY ISSUES, AND NO HOPE FOR AN IMPOVERISHED UPSTATE GROVELING AT THE MERCY OF A THRIVING DOWNSTATE. /

HAVE YOU HAD ENOUGH OF THE INCOMPETENT, SELF-SERVING, TWISTED MENTALITY OF ALBANY?/

MAJORITIES OF THE ASSEMBLY AND SENATE CAN CALL FOR A REFERENDUM TO CONVENE AND ELECT DELEGATES TO A CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION (THE LAST WAS HELD IN 1938) TO RESHAPE OUR LAWS FOR THE 21ST CENTURY. / WE’RE PETITIONING ALL OF THIS YEAR’S LEGISLATIVE CANDIDATES TO PLEDGE, WITHIN 7 DAYS, TO SPONSOR SUCH A BILL AND FILIBUSTER THEIR CHAMBERS ON ALL OTHER LEGISLATION UNTIL THE BILL PASSES./

WE WILL PUBLISH THE RESULTS IN ARTVOICE AND ON ARTVOICE.COM BEFORE THE PRIMARY.

IT’S NO LONGER A GOVERNMENT OF THE PEOPLE. / THERE IS NO MORE IMPORTANT ISSUE IN THIS ELECTION. /

A GREAT MAN ONCE SAID ALL THAT’S NECESSARY FOR EVIL TO SUCCEED IS THAT GOOD MEN DO NOTHING./

IF THEY DON’T MAKE THE PLEDGE, VOTE FOR THEIR OPPONENT AND LET THEM GO FIND ANOTHER CAREER.

CARL P. PALADINO
CEO
ELLICOTT DEVELOPMENT COMPANY

A GREAT MAN ONCE SAID ALL THAT’S NECESSARY FOR EVIL TO SUCCEED IS THAT GOOD MEN DO NOTHING.

That Great Man was John the Baptist.

Carl knows this, but it’s nothing to lose your head over.

  • Tony

That’s funny, Carl doesn’t seem to mind the State government when they are giving him tax breaks on waterfront condos.

  • WNYMind

Poor Carl. He always has an ax to grind and a cross to burn. Carl needs to step aside. Anything he touches is poision. Carl is probaby working for the unions and legislators. His brand on any initiative means there will be no change and the status quo will prevail.

  • ike

“carl needs to step aside”…step aside from what, exactly? he’s just a private citizen, he has no position to renounce

  • Pomeroy

Minds like Mr. Paladino think of the Future, they’re not stalled in the present by Mayor Casey.

The “One and done” administration is at it’s end.

Mr. Paladino should start planning out Buffalo’s recovery with Mayor Mickey Kearns.

  • Joe

Right On!! I am tired of visiting other cities and seeing all their development and the only thing that we develop is the benefits package of our unions, teachers, and government employees. It is pitiful. We need wholesale change here instead of the steady but continuous decline. Lets make the change and make it quick so in 10 years we have an area that we can be proud of instead of the joke of the country.

  • Did Carl himself do this in capitals ? If he did I need to know nothing more from him… God-daaaaaaamn dude…

  • hugh

Carl is insane. He needs to pick one message, one enemy at a time, now he just looks like a whack job.

The problem with NYS is there are SO many issues to attack. Doing some research into why NYS does not have no-fault divorce laws 25 YEARS after the rest of the country changed over, I found that the NYS legislature is one of about 6-7 in the country that is considered “full-time”. The part-time ones only are in session between 60 and 90 days a year – and they STILL seem to get all their work done on time. NYS is in session until June and how many years had the budget been overdue? Talk about the epitome dysfunctional…

am one of many who are very frustrated with the high taxes, waste of resources, and coruption in New York State. We need to cut spending and reduce taxes to the people residing in New York State. I can not encourage my children to move back home to New York when the job opportunities are so limited and the taxes are so much higher than other states. It seems that the rich get all the tax breaks and the “poor”. “disabled” and “disadvantaged” get enough government hand outs that they end up financially better off than the honest hard working person trying to live on a salary just above minimum wage. Mr. Paladino is probably not able to feel for the “middle-class”, but he does want New York State to grow financially healthier, even if for his own benefit. I applaud him for speaking up and hope that he can influence our state government to cut back on all of the “giving” and spending our taxpayers dollars.

I lot of us may like or dislike Carl Paladino. But we all have to admire a person who puts out their opinion without worrying about who they offend. Doctor Williams is an Idealist. Mr Paladino is a Realist. They will clash. I wish the best to both.
