Today, the first steps were taken to convert the 700 block of Main Street into a two-way thoroughfare. Those first steps were to cut down all the healthy, mature trees on the west side of the street—over 20 in all.
The new curb line will in fact make the street narrower, but apparently it would have been a pain to have to work around them. Plus, the huge metal grates around the trunks should be worth quite a bit as scrap these days.
What a waste of money.
